Thirty-eight films released over nearly two decades is long enough that the ranking problem changes partway through. Early MCU entries are judged on whether they worked at all; later ones are judged against everything that came before. A Marvel board is usually an argument about whether you rate a film on its own or on what it did for the wider run.

Rank each film as a standalone movie first, before accounting for its place in the larger story. Several Phase One entries move a full tier under this rule.

Use the phase filters to compare within eras — a mid-tier Phase Three film and a mid-tier Phase Four film are rarely mid-tier for the same reasons.

Finish with the crossover events, then check whether you have rewarded them for scale rather than for being good films.
